Sheriff Al Lamberti and the men and women of the Broward Sheriffs Office will unite with millions of Americans Thursday for a National Day of Prayer.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of this national observance. In keeping with this year’s theme, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” several religious leaders from varied denominations will lead the BSO in prayer, focusing on the seven centers of power: government, military, media, business, education, church and family. The annual event, which was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1952, is observed the first Thursday in May.
“On this 60th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer, I’m honored to join with the millions of people throughout America who rely on prayer for strength and support,” said Sheriff Lamberti.
Thursday’s ceremony will start at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Public Safety Building. The BSO Honor Guard will present the colors, and Sheriff Lamberti will welcome those in attendance, followed by prayers for America.
